 Kahutara Canoes

In Maori 'rua 'can mean two and 'mahanga' can mean twins. So we like to think that the name of Wairarapa's largest river came from the legend of the beautiful twin sisters , Rehutai and Tangimoana, who lived beside the river long ago. Both loved the handsome warrior Ruatoroa, and the drama of jealousy and intrigue ended when a trick by Tangimoana won the young man to her. In despair , Rehutai walked sadly away into hilltop mists, never to be seen again. But our association with the Ruamahanga has nothing to do with sadness.Far from it, because Kahutara Canoes is all about people from toddlers to grandparents enjoying themselves on the scenic Ruamahanga River in  a way few of them have experienced before. We specialise in school parties , social clubs, family groups and team building, we encourage freedom paddling Kahutara Canoes operates seven days a week river and weather permitting. Our Risk Analisis and Management System is available on request.
